In the fall I replaced 2 posts on the overhang that covers my porch.

Today, I removed snow and ice that was at least 4 feet high at the peak. The 2 posts I replaced were rotten at the bottom. Had I not replaced them, my overhang would be resting on my porch by now. And I would have an even more expensive repair.

You think like I do. Others say don’t spend the 100 in the fall let the snow pull it down and for the deductible get a whole new carport.

And then wait for the insurance company to come here while the side of my house is ripped open? And watch my insurance go up? To save $100? My deductible is $500.

Rot is not an insurable problem. If the insurance company determined that failure to maintain the house caused the carport to collapse they may not pay.
