No word from my friend and Mom's computer just died. She said she didn't know what was wrong, I looked inside with a flashlight through the clear side panel and it is absolutely crawling with roaches. She keeps food and trash all around her desk and computer which attracts the roaches. I try to clean up as much as I can but she gets mad if I touch stuff near her desk and taking out trash is supposed to be my brother's job. Now we need to get her a new computer and get the data off the old one.
If that is a tower computer, can you open the case and set some attractive sugar and borax in a jar lid for the roaches? Maybe once the computer has less interference it could start again? And maybe use start in safe mode to get it started again?

Best wishes.

havasu, he's too busy playing computer games I think. But he does want to dye his hair still. LOL. He just hates having to do any work while at home.

HandyOne, the psu is dead. No lights come on at all. It's toast. I'd wager there were thousands of roaches up in it.

After I vacuumed for the first time. I did go and clean it up a bit more after this and I played a game of trying to catch the suckers with the straw on my makeshift attachment I made.

So, I cleaned trash out of the truck, moved the new pc from the front seat to the back seat, got the mesh screens to put on the computer put in the truck, checked on the water trough (doing good), picked up some of mom's clothes to put in a laundry bag, washed them, and moved them to the dryer. I had to sit on the floor to pick stuff up instead of bending. Mom offered to help me up and I said "We'd both be on the floor!"

Got her an appointment with the doctor this afternoon bc she said she feels like the mucus moved to her chest. Friend's paint was all dried up so no painting yesterday. He's grabbing more on his way home from work today and I'll meet him at his house. He'll work on setting up Mom's new pc and roach-proofing it while I paint.

Just a note, OSB, as composed, is moisture resistant, plywood is not, so, if you have a squishy floor, you have far greater problems, than OSB.

Yeah, it isn't sitting on the joists properly. It was a hastily done patch after the toilet fell through the floor (with my brother on it). There had been a leak we didn't see.

A lot of flooring installers won't install over OSB because it flexes more than plywood. And they sell pressure treated plywood that can be used.

I just hate OSB, particle board, and mdf. LOL. When I patched the floor in my bathroom, I used a water seal over the plywood.

The OSB has a surface texture which, depending upon the material, can affect the appearance of the flooring product. I've never used OSB as underlayment, just A or BCI ply.

I took Mom to her doctor's appointment, picked up some RXs for Mom and my brother. Went to friend's house and he took the SSDs out of the old computer and transferred them to the new. Unfortunately, the roaches ate the M2 slot one and it was toast, but he was able to recover data from her other SSD. He didn't have time to grab paint and he was absolutely exhausted, but he wants to pick up lumber on Thursday and I said I could haul it with the truck. I took out the trash at my friend's house and helped his daughter get stuff down from the cabinet. I'll have to upload them later, but I got pics of his new rainshower setup. He told me to turn the water on to see how good the pressure is. Very good pressure. His Mom wanted the old shower trim (which we bought) but he told her it was going back to us since it can go in Mom's shower. It has a longer slidebar and a diverter at the bottom so it will work better than the Moen one we got.

Had to go back to Walmart for cold stuff and then headed home. Cooked dinner, lugged the computer in, moved cases of water around, took mom's laundry out of the dryer & folded it. Took it to her room, etc.

I'm exhausted now. Took some naprosyn and am lying down.

Vacuum the inside the best you can and, once you've done that use a compressor to blow through the vents of the power supply, fans, and heatsinks. If it still doesn't work, try to reseat the power cable connectors at the power supply and motherboard (i.e., pull them out, check/clean the contacts with a swab with alcohol, let dry and plug them back).

If that still doesn't do the trick, my first guess would be that the power supply fried due to overheating. If you can borrow a (known to be working) power supply to, you can test that correct. A new power supply is much cheaper than a new computer.

If you have these conditions, moving forward I would recommend vacuuming and blowing the inside of it at least once a year, or even every 6 months.

Her primary boot drive was toast. It was an m.2 slot and when my friend pulled it out, there were 15 roaches behind it. He put it in the new computer but it couldn't be detected/read. She had been wanting to upgrade her computer anyway as hers was running slow and had issues. It had Windows 10 but the new one has windows 11. She will have to get used to the differences and adjust it to the way she likes.

My friend had used some of the dust screens I brought over to cover some spots but with just magnets they moved and one piece seems to have fallen off entirely (unless he forgot to cover it). So I pulled it out and looked for any spot the roaches could infiltrate. I put mesh over anything that needed to be vented and then used electrical tape over the rest. I've temporarily taped over usb ports, ethernet port, extra HDMI port, the ports on the top of the computer, etc. I taped over small un-used screw holes on the bottom. Sealed up every crevice where I thought roaches could get into. Went and cleaned up the cables with 91% alcohol. I left 3 USB ports and one HDMI port uncovered so I could plug stuff in. Had to replace the HDMI cable as the old one wasn't working well. I had a new one in a box from a black friday sale so that worked out.

Part of her desk broke when I was trying to put the new pc in because its larger than her old one, but I got it in place and then put the desk back together. Stupid particle board. I want to take that entire desk out to the burn pile. Later I will have to go through and untangle cables to figure out which ones are not in use and eliminate them. Then I can vacuum under her desk and spread some diatomaceous earth.

I took out my bathroom trash and brought in new trash bags for my bathroom. I took the ones from Mom's bathroom. They were too flimsy for her larger trash can but work fine for my small one. I replaced them in her bathroom with stronger bags.

So today I'm shopping for a new wall oven. My super deluxe, American made professional model Viking shorted out last night as I was finishing dinner. Thing cost a fortune and is only 8 years old. I put $1500 in repairs into it about 3 years ago. New element was $500 and failed within a couple days of the warranty end but Viking just blew us off on covering it. I have 3 or their appliances and they are the worst I have ever owned while being the most expensive at the same time. Not sure what I'm going to end up with. I sure didn't plan on buying another over so soon but I'm not going to put any more money into the thing.

@68bucks I don't even try to buy any really good appliances anymore. They are just junk. And it is so expensive to repair them as you have said.

So I got the tub drain, spout and overflow all replaced yesterday... what a pain (in the back) that was to figure out. I had bought a tub drain that the plastic piece was not removable. Easy easy once I figured out the problem.
I took a nap today, had a dream a patient died because I was napping 😳.
In the dream, they had come back from the cath lab and I apparently fell asleep charting, woke up to no pulse or BP and looked back for my every 15 minute vitals and groin checks and there weren't any...... patient died, I couldn't even remember to call a code blue in the dream.....
I ALWAYS have the weirdest dreams when I sleep on my left side, and I intentionally slept on that side because my back was hurting.

Getting pizza for dinner. A pizza shop here has 2 for 1 pizza and pasta on Tuesday. So I will be getting 4 multi-topping pizzas for <$40

Tomorrow is my last day off, so not much planned.

Well, no Box store brands work either. My GE washer / dryer set that's 8 Months old has never done what it was supposed to, have to babysit both of them; My 3 Year old Maytag Dishwasher is almost dead, I'm counting on replacing it this Summer; My Frigidaire Oven doesn't actually cook anything unless a Pizza in 55 minutes counts, and the Burners turn on and off, probably for "Green Earth Saving" reasons, and the Oven won't shut off without someone pushing the off button 30 times, almost needing to hit the breaker.

Ever since "Energy Star", 99% of the brands are literal garbage, but a repair tech told me for laundry, Speed Queen doesn't quit. That's my next stop for that.

I think I remember a conversation where someone said Wolf was horrible but Viking was excellent.

@Spicoli43 have you priced a speed queen? I mean they will supposedly last if you don't mind the upfront cost. I considered it when I bought my new set, but I just couldn't. Spent time with the grand babies, had pizza for dinner. Now relaxing for the evening.

No signs of the rat, it's good I know, however it is also annoying. I did change their environment though so I need to give him some time. Just makes me nervous that they will start mating because it's almost mating season.

Yeah Shan, the repair guy told me everything, but I told him I would call him when I was ready to check them out, since he was there to repair my GE's that were less than a Month old. There's a difference in how long each Speed Queen lasts, but they are all better than anything in Big Box stores... Some have a 7 year warranty, so that is 7 times anything Lowe's or HD have just to begin with.

He said something like someone could put a kid through school and College and the things would still be working.

If my GE's still don't work with a Month to go on the warranty, they will give me all my cash back and I'll put whatever else I need into some Speed Queens. I already have them on the things flat out don't do what they are supposed to do... The Washer is supposed to dry it's rubber seal between washes so it doesn't mold, but it doesn't, and you're supposed to be able to wash and dry a small load in the washer (takes 8 plus hours), but the clothes are almost as wet as a normal wash cycle...

The Dryer is supposed to "Sense Dry" and set a time that gets the clothes dry, but it fails bigly...

Just think... Hundreds of members of Congress have their jobs and 160M Americans can't buy an appliance that works.

Well, it's done.... these knees aren't what they used to be. I scrubbed the inside and outside of the toilet.
Looks nice Shan! That sure is a big hole the rat made! Do you have a power mitre saw? Baseboard and trim really make a nice looking room look even nicer!

So, the toilet can't be used because as it is, it's too close to the wall (literally touching it).
It looks like the tank lid fits on it okay. Why do you think it's too close to the wall?

Well, because of Shan, I got motivated to start the demo on our laundry room. It’s really a disaster.

1709089411763.jpeg
Tomorrow I will remove the window and frame the hole up. This used to be an exterior wall but this laundry room was added on at some point.

@Ron Van I probably put at least part of that hole there removing baseboards when I redid that floor several years ago. If I am being honest that wall and the wall the toilet is up against needs ripped out amd reframed. When I bought the house it had a leak in the roof and the wood is probably rotten. The commode lid actually touches the wall without someone sitting on it. There is room for a piece of paper but that is it. I do have a mitre she. I also have a table saw that I have never taken out of the box 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️. Hopefully I will be able to use that this year.

So I walked the perimeter of the house looking for any rat holes. I didn't see any. However I was dismayed at the amount of stuff that I still have in the backyard. I mean, it's not a horrible amount but it's enough. The thoughts of having to deal with it annoy me.... a lot.

I told one of my kids yesterday when I was working on the bathroom that I was done being an independent woman and would be seeking out a husband quickly...... must have been the motivation I needed, because I got it all done.

I think I reached the end of the internet again.... now to find new shows to watch. I like to watch series at night while I fall asleep. Usually gets the trick done.

Shan, I almost always sleep on my left side. Used to sleep on my right until my shoulder injury and still can't sleep comfortably on my right side anymore. Glad you got more stuff done.

Ron, demo is at least some progress. Hope it goes well.

I went to pick up Mom's RX -- had to call them and get them to do a rush fill bc they weren't going to fill it until after 4pm tomorrow and she has walking pneumonia so needed something asap.

Got home and started trying to get stuff worked out on her computer, retrieving/resetting passwords that were lost etc. That woman can't follow directions to save her life. I think my bp would set off alarms right now. She was griping that she couldn't login to anything so I reset her password from my computer (I know her email password and got her permission to login). That let her login to Youtube and other stuff. Then she was having trouble pairing her headset via bluetooth and was having a fit. I asked my friend bc I don't know jack about bluetooth and he told me she needed to put the headset in pairing mode. I told her this but she argued. I looked up how to do it but she wouldn't do it. Kept saying she didn't have to do that with her old computer. I said that she did have to do it and she needed to do it again but she absolutely refused and kept having a tizzy. I finally had to do it for her. I pushed the button until the light flashed and the device name popped up on the list. I then told her to click it. would she click it? No. Ugh. I finally had to grab the mouse and to it myself. I also had to type in the passwords for her. JFC I was about to blow a gasket. LOL. But its done and she's happily watching Dimash videos.

At least I didn't have to give birth to them. LOL. Being lazy and waiting to see if Mom will wake up so we can go to the store together later. The meds she took made her feel a lot better. I might just grab something to eat. Brother is using my shower right now.
