I have been able to get a little done on my laundry room project but it is going slowly.

I decided to re-do the water heater install that I put in last month because I just didn’t like the way it turned out. It worked okay but it looked bad and there was exposed pex.

Now, the pex is in the wall and Stainless pipe comes out of the wall.

Next was to remove that window. There is a bathroom on the other side.

IMG_7140.jpeg

Window gone and framed for Sheetrock. I installed furring strips to bump the wall out to 5” thick to accept the 4” dryer duct. The washer box is in place as well as the dryer box.

IMG_7143.jpeg

I used pocket screws to install a 3/4” piece of wood to attach the eared elbows to. Very solid.

I need to finish the wiring and run the dryer duct. Then Sheetrock.

It looks good, Ron. Was this once an exterior porch or something?
I like the beadboard on the ceiling.

Today I went over to try to help my friend install his new electric fireplace unit in the structure he built. He still plans to add a mantle. 1709700126990.png
I'd like to coat the raw wood with clear poly. He has it on light setting without heat right now.
Got him to test Mom's old m.2 SSD and found that it does work and has a bunch of videos and pictures of Mom's on it so it will go in the mini computer I just ordered for her. Had him wipe the m.2 on the new computer that broke down (it lasted less than a week) and had him remove the 2.5"SSDs that he'd put in. I'd covered the new tower with mesh screen and electrical tape to protect it so my friend pulled that all off. Bagged it up and put it back in its box and I returned it to the Walmart for a full refund. I described how it just stopped working and I had a computer person check it out and declare it toast. Clerk checked to make sure it was the right serial number, had mouse, keyboard, and power cord and everything that came with it.

Ordered a Minisforum Venus UM790 Pro with 64Gb RAM, 1TB SSD, Ryzen 9 7940HS processor, and AMD Radeon 780M graphics card. It's actually a better system than the one from Walmart and its less expensive (since it is on a limited time deal). She already has a mouse and keyboard that she likes. I discovered that some of my tools have disappeared. They are probably buried under other stuff, but I needed them and couldn't find them. Cooked for Mom a few times and got her permission to order the new pc after taking the other one back.

Got some rotisserie chickens and took all the meat off the bones. Rupert is now licking my face because I apparently got a little chicken grease on it.

Apparently the house idiot doesn't know how to read directions or do what the videos saying while loading rat traps.......
Said idiot, (MYSELF) didn't load it correctly..... loading correctly yesterday, dead rat this morning. I'm not sure how , bit the rat was dead beside the trap and not in the trap at all, as well as the kibble was still in the compartment. Thankful it's dead nonetheless. I will reload that trap and hope that if there's another rat it will come inside and meet its death. I will be leaving the traps out for a while though, just incase. I am also going to try to fix the crawl space entrance. Thinking about pouring a concrete pad there (small area), because if I just leave it as dirt, they will just dig underneath right?
I would guess that the rat weighed 3/4 -1 pound? He was bigger than the snap trap

Yes. I think there was a carport with a shed that enclosed the washer/dryer. It’s a common configuration here. I believe at some point, a room was added that went around the laundry shed and enclosed the carport. This is what I think it originally looked like.

Then a stone wall was built on the right side and the the laundry shed was enclosed into what we call the TV room.

Finally, The back patio was closed in and the washer/dryer was moved to the other side of the wall.

This is the original door between the kitchen and the Carport (now the TV room)

I opened the wall up a couple of years ago. You can see the laundry shed through the wall. It is now a bathroom. You can also see (behind the dog butt) the old stone step.

This is what the Utility room addition looks like on the outside. The building in the background is my shop area.

To sum it up, To the left is the original Laundry shed (now a bathroom, in the center of the photo is the Carport (now the TV room) and on the right is a glassed in room we call the sun porch. To the right of the Sun Porch is a screened in patio that looks out to the lake. To the left of the bathroom is the utility room that I'm working on.

Shan, hopefully you will get rid of all of the rats.
Ron, a lot of work went in to modifying the house and its good to see you making progress.

I was absolutely exhausted yesterday so I slept in and was a zombie when I did get up until after 4pm. I took Mom's new miniPC over to best friend's house so he could put the old m.2 SSD in it and copy data from her old slow Western Digital 250Gb 2.5" SSD to a 2TB 2.5"Samsung SSD. Took 45min to get the data moved from the WD and 20min to transfer it to the Samsung. Went to the store and bought a desk organizer to hold Mom's new PC. I wanted the kind that is sort of mesh metal to let the PC breathe. Also grabbed some fried chicken for my friend to thank him for the help. Took the computer home and put dust screen over the vents on it. I also put silicone plugs in any unused ports. Although, the setting up came after I spent a few hours cleaning up the space. Mom had filled 1/4 of a 55 gallon trash bag trying to clean up on and around her desk before she felt sick and needed to lie down. She still has walking pneumonia. All roach and mouse excrement on and around her desk certainly wasn't helping. I first tackled the floor. Managed to lift her heavy chair out of the way-- knocked a bunch of stuff down in the process. Then I picked up all the trash, random stuff that I put elsewhere, etc. There was a tangled mess of cords under her desk. I traced all of them, marked ones that were to stay with blue tape and pushed them out of the way, removed all of the ones that are not in use. Cleaned all the ones that stayed with disinfectant wipes and sprayed them with Zevo and misted with peppermint oil. Brought in the shop vac and vacuumed the lower foot rest shelf, vacuumed the floor as best as I could. Found a bunch of butter knives, a few spoons, and other random stuff.

Then I moved on to the desk. I pulled the monitor off and wiped it with disinfectant wipes and rubbed Zevo on the back and base. Took the stand it sits on and gave it the same treatment. Carefully looked through and pulled out coins, glasses, pens, more butter knives, nail clippers and other random junk. Got rid of a bunch of AARP magazines that were covered in excrement and chewed by mice. Found obituary cards for my dad and had to stop and cry for a bit. Found a letter from a friend who passed away. Put letters that might still be useful in a bin. Stuffed things into the cubbies on the desk. Cleared off the right "wing" of the desk. Vacuumed, wiped, sprayed roach spray, etc. By the time I was done I'd filled the 55gallon trash bag. Knocked stuff down putting the chair back and had to pick it all back up and organize things. Got the new desk organizer set up and got the new PC in place and hooked up. Mom was using her laptop so I got her to come out and see her new miniPC. She went through some of the setup but then stopped.

I was up until 5am. Racked out for a bit and got up this morning to do more stuff on her PC. Got her logged in to microsoft, set a pin, and then had trouble with the wifi. Had to disable ipv6, reboot, run some commands in command prompt to release & renew ipconfig and flush dns. Eventually I had to reboot the modem to get her computer to connect to the internet. I paired her headphones to it via bluetooth, got Chrome installed, Edge removed from taskbar, and retrieved her passwords for various sites.

Now she can watch all the Dimash videos she wants and pay some bills.

Need o get up now to take her to an appointment with the diabetes specialist.

So, we took her to the specialist and I brought the dexcom G7 and one sensor. The sensor wouldn't deploy. It was either defective or had been tampered with. But either way, they sent me a non-working sensor. I texted to report the issue and the guy called me back while I was loading groceries and wouldn't take the hint that I needed to end the call so I could finish loading stuff. They still had some snags on getting the insulin pump. I'll have to bring a sensor to her next appointment if I don't get her to let me put a different sensor on her first. It's pretty easy looking. to use if it I can get it right the first time.

I like those stands. BTW, i made a few water heater boxes like that for customers near me, and was quickly and firmly rejected by inspectors due to them not being fireproof. I was ordered to line with Rated fireproof drywall.
Obviously, your mileage will vary, since you are not in Kalifornia.

@Ron Van I have considered this myself, to save my back.

How long should I leave these rat traps out? I haven't heard any chewing or seen any evidence of rats since I killed the one rat.

I made a "needs done" list on a white board that I helped my son hang a few years ago.
20240312_223920.jpg

I am writing the action in a different color than what needs done, and then the attempt in a third color. Idk why I decided to do it that way, but I did. I will add to it as needed, and cross things off as they get done. Maybe with them out of my head and written done, I can think about them less and do them more.
I attempted to install the new vent hood today, however I couldn't because it didn't come with the 1 man ez brackets. I think I have a set around here somewhere, however tomorrow is my last day off. I did take the wires and wired an outlet in that spot instead of the wires just hanging there. I can't leave it that way though because it isn't in a box, idk what I did with the spare one a couple of weeks ago.

I can't wait until it gets just a little warmer outside so I can empty the garage and sort, donate, discard and organize my junk. I'd really like to buy a building to put all that in, but then I would want electric too it and then I would want to remove the room that's built inside the garage.... so I am choosing to be content with how it is currently.

Thanks for the heads-up! Our WH in California was on a stand that was covered with drywall. I thought it looked flimsy but I guess the important part was the fireproofing.

I hooked everything back up so we can do some laundry. We have been using our neighbor’s washer and dryer . . . she hasn’t been home in months.

I still need to install baseboard, crown molding and shelves. It’s supposed to rain Friday so I need to get my tools put away.

This is what it looked like when we bought the house. You can see the dryer is vented through the window.

When I walk around in public or am on message boards amongst normal people, I don't call them Morons because it's disrespectful... That term is reserved for politicians and celebrities... I deserved it today though, because I bit my lip 3 times... Twice within 5 minutes...

"Teach me how to chew my food?".... "Duh Georgie, do I move my lip out of the way before the teeth come down, Georgie?"... "When the lip is not near the teeth coming down, why do I bite it, Georgie?"

Now I have the internal lip bump for a few days...

I don’t have experience with rats but Ruby put out mouse traps when we first bought this house and we actively caught mice for the first two years. The traps are still armed but we haven’t had any customers recently. We use live traps and relocate the little buggers to a remote location.

I like this idea. I always have a “ToDo” list going.

Is it a microwave/vent hood combo? If you have an electric stove, it might be easier to pull out the stove so you can get in there and not strain yourself. If the stove is gas…not so easy to pull out.

I need to do the same with my shop area. It’s a disaster! I hate throwing stuff away though because as soon as I throw it out…I wish I had it for something. I have a tremendous amount of wood scraps.

Hate that! Problem is once you bite it and it swells a little it's easier to bite it again.

Yep... I just bit it again, so the bump is probably 1.75 times as big... At this point, it will probably show on the outside, inviting snide remarks like "Looks like someone gave you a fat lip"...

Instead of my inside Irish voice of "Ya think so, nimrod?", which will invite my chance to show I know how to block actual punches, I will probably just say "Yep" to thus avoid having to admit I haven't biologically progressed past the stage of a Caveman, albeit I could say I'm a Caveman OOH OOH OOH because I look like one.

Viewing oneself in a mirror could serve a couple of defunctetures, your appearance, a savior to all, and also improve your aiming skills, while munching on yourself.
