Antique Door Handle Fell Off

Hi everyone, I have this old style door handle and one side of it fell right off. There is no visible opening to the hardware that I can see, and the diamond shape of the connections inhibits turning the handle to tighten it. Anyone delt with a similar set up before?

Looks like that rectangular shaped plate in the handle should pop off so you can get to the bolt that holds it all together.

I see a phillips head screw in the first picture. What happens if you remove that?

The rectangle on the handle is just a decorative design, there's no actual separation of the metal. The screw you see is the bolt from the other side of the handle, which turns with the handle.
