We're pretty sure the raccoon that was living under our back porch died. Today was one of the first days where it was nice to be outside and we noticed a smell that seems more like dead animal than droppings. (Besides, there was never any smell at all before.) If we're right, what's the best way to get rid of the problem?

None really. Not unless you count the 8" hole the raccoon dug out.

Wood. I guess it's really a deck, only it's covered and screened in.

No. All the boards go all the way across and then around the edges there are other boards going across them...plus if I only took out one or two boards they might not be directly over the critter.

My wife told me yesterday she's called a pest control guy, so I guess it's in his hands now, whenever he's able to come by.

Turns out it's just "moldy poo". Removing it is a lot more work than ignoring it, so...

Dead raccoon or moldy poo, either way Mother Nature will remove it in a few weeks, smell will go away once it all rots away.
