I was wondering if the dishwasher air gap is just a quaint tradition or codified. I didn't have one in my Utah house, but in Southern Nevada I do. I just bought a new kitchen faucet and realized it conflicts with the stupid wart on my sink. Is that thing really necessary these days?

There are exceptions, however, they should be approved.

The most common, is the dishwasher discharge is installed as a "high loop", which, since you have chosen, a faucet, or elected to install a faucet using all the available holes, you'll need to reconfigure the appliance discharge.

I had one in my house in VA built in 1988, but not in my house built in NC 10 years later. I do have a high loop on my dishwasher drain to keep stuff from the disposal from going down to the DW.
