I am having a heck of a time with fruit flies.

I keep my apartment clean and emtpy the trash frequently.

I have fly strips in every room.

I have apple cider vinegar traps as well.

I notice the grocery stores have that problem too.

If I did not have a parakeet, I would set off a roach bomb.

Any other ideas?

Red wine works very well in the trap.

A small piece of banana also works.

Keep the rest of the banana in the freezer, in a ziplock.
Just cut off a new piece as needed for traps.

What kind of traps do you have?

The kind I have used are just yellow sticky paper that you roll into a tube.
Put the tube on a small dish or cardboard, with the bait on the bottom.

Are you sure they are fruit flies?

Other flies look similar, like white flies or thrips, which feed on houseplants.

We had fruit flies at work pretty bad once and a engineer I worked with built a little timer that would come on for a minute and off for 30 minutes. He took a plate and put a ripe banana on it and plugged the shop vac in pointing at it. We went home for the weekend and returned Monday to no fruit flies. :)

The trap consists of apple cider vinegar inside a glass with a piece of plastic wrap over it with a small hole.

A lot of flies were buzzing around it and some got trapped. I sprayed rubbing alcohol and killed a lot.

They have thinned out greatly and only a few are left.
