General QUestion on Inside Temp Maintenance

I occupy a home in Southern ORegon and leave for warmer/drier climate in the winter. I am not sure if there is a minimum temperature setting for my heat pump beyond the obvious to avoid freezing.

Typically I sent the thermostat to keep the house at around 55F. I am considering setting it VERY LOW at around 35-40F to save $$$.

I'm guessing that I'd have no freeze problems as long as I keep the inside temp about 32F but I wonder if I might cause damage to any of the interior such as carpet, hardwood floors, etc. The house was built in 1994, 1700 sq. ft. and is fairly well insulated.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. THanks!

The recommended temperature is 55* which prevents too much contraction and expansion and keeps the walls from cracking. It also needs to run occasionally to keep the moisture down and prevent mould and mildew.
Sorry, its a 'bite the bullet' situation.
