I have an older Rheem gas hot water tank that has been operating fine for a dozen or more years. It just started leaking from a hex fitting on the top, NOT on the side. I pulled the levers that allow me to isolate the the hot water heater if need be. I shut it off, brrr, cold shower time. Has the tank reached it's age limit or could there be another cause (over pressure?) Thanks!

Thanks again,

Vince

When mine start leaking and they are getting long in the tooth I just replace the tank. It sounds like where yours is leaking is where the anode rod is located. you can try pulling it and see if that thread is leaking. It might take a little heat from a heat gun and a good size socket wrench to get it moving.
