Ideal Fence Height

What do you consider to be the ideal height for a residential fence? In Cape Coral a fence must be a maximum of 6 feet unless the residential property is next to a commercial property in which case 8 feet is allowed. Are there regulations about fence heights in your area? What height do you think works best?

How much do you value your privacy?

Do you have animals to contain?

Pick whatever answer that gives you the higher fence height and go with that.

Are you building it for privacy, or installing a split rail fence to keep in the dogs??
I'm just now starting to build a fence around our backyard. Doing a 4 rail horse farm type design, planning on it being 4 feet high. But it's only to keep in our dog, who is too husky to get over a 2 ft fence. So the extra 2 feet are for aesthetics.
