That would depend upon the fitting you are going to connect to it.
There are three types of connections, pipe thred, compression and flare, and that fitting represents the male end of a flare fitting.
What isn't obvious is any type of thred sealant.

When you push the appliance into place you'll likely create a 90 degree bend in the flex line, and because you will be venting the appliance with 4" galv. material the bend may not be that drastic.To avoid this you can remove the flex hose, the fitting and, using pipe joint compound, install a 1/2" galv. street 90, the removed fitting and the flex connector.This give you the versatility of pointing the fitting anywhere in a 180 degree circle, and virtually eliminates the bend.
