metal hole on driveway

Hi there.

Does anyone know what this metal hole on my driveway is? Looks like the cap is missing. I took a picture of the same spot on one of my neighbors' driveway. His has a cap.

I went to Lowe's and they said they don't have the cap. Does anyone know where to get one and how to install it?

That looks a lot like the main water shut off to your house from the city. The city owns that. If you let them know they should come out and replace it for free. It’s their cap and they will not want their hole to fill in with dirt otherwise they will need to locate it first then dig it out when they need to use it, plus if you ever need to turn the water off to your house they will not be able to do that. You would be doing them a favor by letting them know and it shouldn’t come at any cost to you for them to fix it.

That’s how it works where I live anyway.
