I‘m not a plumber but have done basic jobs around the house for many years. I purchased a new shower head with a new mix valve and faceplate. The valve looks odd to me and I’m thinking it is defective? . (See pics). I am holding the valve upright in the pic.

The hit and cold outlets have a piece of the main body protruding into the opening and on the top, it is even more pronounced. Looks like these piece should have been knocked out so as not to restrict water flow..but I can’t be sure. Any ideas here? Brand says “Home Life” which seems to be Taiwanese made. Before I send it back, wondering what more experienced people might think..thanks in advance!059660E3-3942-4599-8962-3B869ACBBA42.jpeg5E649000-A325-4B72-8AED-D2CD08AFCE02.jpegB218CDC3-F850-4F67-A6EE-787BA7F685EE.jpegF9641392-A4E9-4842-AF00-33498913CB4B.jpeg059660E3-3942-4599-8962-3B869ACBBA42.jpeg5E649000-A325-4B72-8AED-D2CD08AFCE02.jpegB218CDC3-F850-4F67-A6EE-787BA7F685EE.jpegF9641392-A4E9-4842-AF00-33498913CB4B.jpeg

Welcome.

It appears that they are using a flow restricter, as opposed to a "right temp" feature, which will need you to strike a "happy balance", and hope for mild winters.

If you were a plumber, you would never have bought that POS.
Meanwhile, you get what you pay for.
Which is a piece of junk.
Return it, or throw it out, admit your mistake before it haunts you for decades.
Do you think you will be able to get new cartridges for that junk after a few years?
Nope!
It will perform poorly, then torture you when trying to repair it.
Buy something name brand, and learn your lesson cheap and early.
