I replaced my tub drain due to cosmetic reasons and followed all the instructions in a youtube video to replace it. I installed a new gasket to the tub drain shoe and placed a pencil worth of plumbers putty all around the new tub drain (not threads) and installed it hand tight (in addition to a few spins with a screwdriver inside the hole of the tool to give me peace in mind of added tightness). I wanted to know is this standing water (see picture) from after showers/drip from the faucet on top of the new drain normal or am I overthinking it? The reason I ask is I'm wondering if I need to continue tightening it down until the water does NOT sit and flows down the drain as expected?

Personally, I've never installed a gasket under a tub drain, just used plumbers putty.

I usually tighten the drain much more than hand tight.
