What would you use to cover this

We had wood paneling on our walls. When the privious owner had the room built they put a brick wall in front of the wood paneling. When I took down the paneling I left it behind the brick wall. As seen in picture. What would use use to cover the gap from the wall to the brick? It’s about ½”. Would I use wood trim or just clean the wood and then paint it?

I think I would get a trim piece maybe quarter round and trim it out to give a nice defined edge to paint to.
