Laneway Retaining Wall Over Ditch...

The Present Retaining Wall over the Ditch to the Laneway entering the Property needs Replacing.. It's made out of 6X6 Timbers.. The plan is to use the present wall as a Form on one side and Dig a Trench along the Inside (18" Thick by 13' Long by 4' High)... Cost Wise the Debate is whether to (1) Have Ready Mix Concrete trucked in or (2) Buy the Required # of Bags and Mix on site... Also the formula used to calculate how much cement would be needed ?? Thoughts & Opinions Appreciated, Cheers Thanks

A cubic yard of concrete is 3'X3'X3'.

When you remove the timbers your design will not resist overturning moment. You need to "L" the design and add rebar so that the weight of the soil retained exerts downward pressure and resists overturning.

What is a "10' T bar"?", and where are they sunk in the trench?

10 Foot Long T-Bars (Steel Fence Posts) Ribbed Design.. There old as now their only available in 7 ft lengths.. At least 6ft of the steel posts will be pounded into the ground all along the dug trench that's either side of the Culvert Pipe

While that isn't an engineered solution, and as long as you understand that the chemical composition of the concrete will weaken them at the intersection of the soil and concrete, yet are assuming that eventuality.........

Structural concrete, and a retaining wall is just that, demands a "cost" of reinforcement, free of surrounding influences, of a min. of 2".
