Morning,
Thank you @zannej and @Spicoli43 ...

@Spicoli43 Thank you for the reading, going to come home after the gym and so some reading... One more day to go...

Talk soon, Kids...
Cheers~

I guess I forgot to send this the other day... That was my brain not working while going through the withdrawal...

So, here we are here now at 4:44 on Tuesday afternoon... Got my drugs yesterday, after having to go to yet another drugstore... I got escorted out of the drugstore after them telling me it would not be ready till Thursday or Friday... I simply asked the pharmacist if he ever went through a withdrawal of any kind, and then he got mouthly, and I almost went across the counter at him... So, went to another drug store in town, and had my meds within a couple of hours... Why couldn't they do that...

Lorie had to go into Ottawa to fix her Mom's new room up for her after her knee replacement surgery yesterday... She was told she could have one glass of water prior to surgery, and I made a bet with the family the other day, that, the hospital would cancel her surgery because her blood pressure would be too high. So when Lorie's sister got her to the out-of-city hospital, her blood pressure was 225 over something... and she was to have only one glass of water to take the medication she was allowed to take, so she had 6 glasses. This the same Lady who doesn't drink water because she was in an exercise class, that fainted and called us to tell us they think Mother was having a stroke... But turned out she was just dehydrated...

She was supposed to have surgery yesterday morning at 7... but they put her in a room, and monitored her blood pressure for the next 5 hours, and when it was normal, they thought, ok, we'll do the surgery. So 1:00 pm she went in for surgery... The knee replacement went perfectly. Got her to recover, and everything was great... in two hours they will release her, and she can go home... The family made arrangements that she would go to another floor where she lives where they have nurses...

But as the nurse is giving Lorie's sister the notes for the home, on what she is supposed to do with her knee in the coming days before surgery, she drops, and the nurse bends over, and takes her vitals, she jumps up, pushes the bed button and yells Code Blue, Code Blue... so they come running in with carts and things... and get her going again... So after another few hours, like 2:00 this morning, they come in and talk to Lorie's sister, and discuss she is going to the city hospital by ambulance. They also told Lorie's sister she is going to that hospital because she has torn tenants in her shoulders, so she can not get out of bed for her leg, because she has no strength in her shoulders,, and all the heart tests and blood tests, show nothing why she went into a Code Blue... But the city hospital will run more tests...

When they went to get her up again this afternoon, she turned white and almost fell again... So she is there for a few days... and Lorie and her Sister are seeing where she lives, if they can handle that with her, or is she going to have to go somewhere else... Then I open my BIG mouth and say something like why would they even do the surgery at her age... she is 84... after her blood pressure is 225 over something, they should have wheeled her back to the car and said, sorry we are NOT doing the surgery... As far as I am concerned, at that age, I don't think she should have ever been a candidate for that surgery...

So, Lorie and her sister are still in Ottawa, possibly coming home tomorrow if they can find a place for her...

So, tonight is probably going to be the Stanley Cup tonight, as much as I wanted Florida to win... they are now down to 3 -1... So it, will probably end tonight... Is anyone else watching it...

Well, I hope YOU all have a GREAT evening... and we'll talk soon!
Cheers~
Good luck to your Mother In Law, I agree on the surgery. Why would they even think of doing that besides a cash grab? If I'm 84 and they want to replace my knees, I'll tell them I will just crawl everywhere... If they have a problem with that, I'll tell them to cut off a Leg... If they have a problem with that, I'll say "Take them both, I don't F'N need em!"... Her blood pressure sounds like she just doesn't want to be there.

I agree on jumping the counter also... I don't take any RX drugs, but I have had some short conversations with Pharmacists that think they are important. I don't have patience for people like that.

Cutting back forsythia. It's very invasive and got away from me into my woods. I am cutting it back then when new growth appears it's chemical warfare time. Some of it is too big for the loppers to cut. I am going to put it on my terrorist list and kill it where I find it. I wonder if 120 V would kill its roots.

Hummingbird feeder has been empty for 6+ years but they still check it out every now and then.

Shan, I hope the mower won't be gone too long. Hmm.. I got white vinegar directly on my hands and didn't have any problems with it. But, I don't use gloves when using lysol wipes or clorox wipes and it doesn't bother my skin much.

Redneckgrump, Ugh. I agree-- why would they even do the surgery when her bp was that high?
I really don't see the need for surgery at that age unless its lifesaving. I'm still sad that my elderly friend went in to have some skin cancer removed from the to of his head at age 89. The quack cardiologist didn't bother to check his heart first and just approved it. The tests showed he had over 20 blockages prior to the surgery and an internalist was the one who noticed and was pissed that the cardiologist gave the go ahead. Oncologist never would have done the surgery. He never fully woke up after the surgery & was put in hospice at home where he died a few days later. He'd had a mild heart attack maybe a couple days before the procedure. That should have shown in his bloodwork if they'd had a competent cardiologist.

I've fortunately never had a terrible pharmacist.

Still tired- between needing the thyroid stuff to build back up and the heat, it has me low energy again. I did do some picking up, sweeping, etc in my bathroom and then I did I scrubbed the wall in my bedroom. I need to clean higher and lowre and behind m desk, but I needed a break.

I also need to find some decent blue paint to paint on the porch ceiling and underside of the eaves to see if it will repel wasps.

@zannej This wasn't 5% vinegar like you buy to clean with, this was 45% which burns your nose and eyes when you first open the bottle.... potent stuff.

As far as surgeries on the elderly..... family members guilt the elderly into doing things they don't want to do, most do great with knee replacements in my area. People that age even have open heart surgery 😳. In emergency situations, some adult children tell healthcare workers not to let mommy or daddy die. Some families even go against the patients living will. Alot of families leave their family member in horrible conditions(either at home or in nursing homes) because it fills their own emotional agenda and stops the guilty feels of having ignored them for decades, unfortunately. It is so very sad to see that play out over and over again.

@RedneckGrump I am surprised that they did her surgery, I am 99.99% sure my facility would have sent her home and rescheduled. I hope that she is doing well and recovers quickly.

I made the meatloaf finally, it has about 15 minutes left. I decided on a baked potato and peas because I am currently lazy 😴

I haven't had meatloaf in a long time. My mom always made good meatloaf but I always got sick after eating it. Turned out it was the onions.

Ahh, makes sense that its stronger vinegar. Where do you even buy that? I could use it to kill some weeds in my yard.

I ordered it o. Amazon. $20 per gallon, you use a gallon or the vigar with 1 cup table salt and 1-2 tablespoons od dawn, mix it up in a sprayer. You can actually dilute it down, and @Spicoli43 said he used regular vinegar.... however, I am not messing around with it lol

Shan, you're out to kill and it looks like it's working!

I think I have a new vice. Mezete red hot chili hummus and Garden of Eating organic yellow corn tortilla chips. The bad news is they are both from the Grocery Outlet so availability will be limited.

Yeah, I never counted on anything from Grocery Outlet ever being back, but it was addicting to go there and see what they had.

Good Morning...
Thought I'd pop in before heading to the gym...

Mother in Law is doing better, but has a very long road ahead of herself... and we'll all be there for her...

Hope YOU all have a wonderful Hump Day...
Cheers!

IIRC I haven't purchased an apple in the past 6+ years. A friend gave me 5 beautiful apples, maybe Fujis. In eating them I have reconfirmed that modern apples are pretty well tasteless. I suspect most have never tasted a real apple, one that has not been subjected to the chemically induced suspended animation process.

In my experience it varies by time of year as well as by variety of apple, probably by seasonal weather and grower too. When we go apple picking at a local farm those apples always pack huge flavor, no matter what variety.

I'm surprised by what you said though, usually Fujis are relatively sharp-flavored. You sure they weren't Galas? Galas are always pretty mild, which for some people is a feature not a bug. They look like Fujis.

Another possibility: maybe you have Covid effects and can't taste anything. 🤣

More seriously, beware whenever someone says "X was better back in the good ole days". Sentimentality and nostalgia can distort perception.

I distinctly remember my greatest experience ever eating an apple. I was sitting in my car, and it was around 2007, give or take a couple years, and the apple was a Granny Smith. For about 2 minutes I sat in my car, parked in the driveway, and ate that apple in silence, core and seeds and all (the way I always do) and it was pure bliss. I even recognized it at the time.

And now we get to search for the APEEL coatings... Every time I end up with an Apple that has the wax on it, it ticks me off that I didn't figure that out before I bought them.

I never purchase apples at the market. I could get them at the orchards in season but it's not worth the drive or the price for the apples. I don't know where these came from, someone gave them to my friend and he shared with me. We had a neighbor who worked for the state Dept of Ag and would bring us a couple of bushels of fresh picked red delicious in season. Not as good (or as big) as those that came from Washington state wrapped in purple paper but those may not have been red delicious. My favorite back in the day was golden delicious after the sugar spots appeared in the peel.

Bananas are ripened with ethylene gas, sometimes too fast so taste varies. My friend buys bananas at the GO store because he says it's too small to afford a gas chamber.

Regarding oldsters losing of taste that's what people oft said about me and peanut butter. It had always been one of my favorites but I tried all brands finding none to satisfy my taste. Then when visiting my in-laws one vacation my MIL set PNB on the table in a small bowl. I kept on pressing to get the brand name and FIL went to the pantry and brought out a large reclosable tin of USDA peanut butter. The government was giving low income people boxes of "commodities" which included PNB, real butter and some delicious cheese. This was several years before markets began to carry natural PNB.

@RedneckGrump glad to here MIL is doing well! I'm also not surprised that you guys will take good care of her, you seem like a good, compassionate fella.

Here's a pic of my dried up finger that had lots of the vinegar, salt, dawn mixture on it. Look how dry it is in comparison to the other finger. It feels weird because it is super rough!20230614_232149.jpg

I am so glad my days off start NOW. I am exhausted today for some reason.

I'll be working on making lists of things that need done in each room, and then going through those items every day and making a to do list. Hopefully I can stick with it lol.

Also....... The Rome apple is from near me!
I had forgotten about the Rome apple. It's the queen of baking apples and originated in Rome Township, OH. I would love to have some of them tree ripened. Are they still grown in Lawrence County?

My french fry cutter arrived. I haven't tried it yet. It may have been an honest mistake (from using a stock photo) but the item received was not as pictured. The one pictured had a lever actuated vacuum seal to clamp it to the counter top. The one received has four rubber feet. I went through the eBay request to return process offering to keep the item if they would refund a couple of bucks. Instead I was immediately refunded the full price and permitted to keep the item. That's not what I wanted but the system didn't provide an option.
