Your bigger problem is ground water that can come up from below, that why I suggested a solid seal on the foundation up on the wall run the metal up the wall to protect the seal behind whatever you do for siding. It could fill upolike a pool and won't leak.
I wouldn't give the pavers a cushion any more than I would want edgers to move.

I should explain a bit more. I already have Vycor on hand and also have galvanized flashing ready to go. No question about that. Bud had concerns about drainage under the pavers, so i was wondering if the sheet drain would help drain water to the driveway (front step). Again a situation where I would be going "off-prescription" on the use of the material, so I'm not sure it would even help or just complicate things.

I’m not sure what the curtain drain is like, but would the sand be able to get into it and fill it up?
