Ron, since your ski boat was built in the low wake era with a low displacement hull how does it work out for wake boarding or surfing? Do the boat builders build separate boat styles or can boats be adapted for both?

Ron, how can you tell the gears are worn? What should I be looking for in that photo?

My ambitions when it comes to boating are to become close friends with people who own boats, never to own them myself! Boats look like floating piles of work and expenses to me.
I'm sorry, I took this picture to aid in reassembly and I took the picture before we actually saw the bad gears. The bad ones are really hard to see in the photo. The gears you can see clearly are (IMO) okay but the axle side gear (Sun Gear) and the Differential pinion gear (Planet gear) are very noticeably worn and/or chewed up.

We didn't see it at first

This is an interesting unit. It does everything. There is a pulley on the top that is driven by a belt. It turns a Hydraulic pump which powers a Hydraulic Motor that actually turns the differential which drives the wheels. Just to the right of the hydraulic motor is a small disk connected to the first gear...that's a little disk brake. . .the only brake on the tractor.

This a Tuff Torq Hydrostatic drive built in Tennessee. Many lawn tractors use their units.

It's these gears in this picture

This video doesn't work exactly like the John Deere but it shows how a differential works

I read many obituaries looking for someone with a wife named Lorie with no result so maybe @RedneckGrump hasn't passed. If he's disabled or in rehab I pray for speedy recovery. I suspect admin knows (or could know) as his email is on file but admin can't break the rules of privacy.
I can send an email to the email he had used to initially sign in here. That is about all I have to get to a member.

I sometimes do a bit of data mining to get real names and satellite views of properties. I don't post my results for OPSEC reasons but @RedneckGrump never gave enough clues.

You are soooo right! When I was growing up...Back when the Earth was cooling, Every kid wanted a small wake to ski on. When I finally had the resources to buy a real tournament ski boat (I bought it in 1995 but it's a 1978 model), my kids decided they liked to wake board better than slalom ski. Too bad, it's my boat...anyway, I put a tower on it so we could wake board but it doesn't produce the massive wakes the kids want and wake surfing is out of the question but I have a friend in California that has a MB wake surfer boat that has built in "Fat Sacks" and a pump to pump water in and out for added weight to produce the massive wakes.

So, to make a long story endless...They make portable Fat Sacks you can put in a boat but I like to Ski so I probably won't invest in them. There is also an upside-down hydrofoil that will drag the back of the boat down to make big wakes but that seems a little hard on the boat to me.

It will produce a wake if you slow it down to 15-20mph. Normal ski speed is 28-32mph.

Ruby doesn't realize it but she is in danger of getting her foot tangled in the rope!

Ron, for some reason I thought of float plane landings. They may look soft and easy to the casual observer but require quite a bit of skill as dipping the tip of a float into the water could be a disaster.

From Redneck Grump...G'day, some things came up .. getting through them, and also lost everything about your forum... Great place... Send me the info again, and hopefully be back soon...

Thanks, Mike

I don't know... "G'day"???

Hmmm... Sounds like his captors in Perth.

HAHA

I hope he will come back and visit. Glad he responded.

Took mom to exchange her phone but they said since the deal to trade in any phone for a better price is over and she only paid $80 for the new phone (the tax after trading in another phone) they would only let that $800 phone be traded in for $80. Said if she traded in her Note 4 she could get $20 for it and the s23 would still be full price less the $100 for both phones. Sounds like a total ripoff to me. The associate was nice enough though. But we decided to pass and keep her current phone.

Stopped at Golden Corral again and stuffed ourselves. Waitress was very nice and gave me a hug.

Went to Samsclub after and I loaded up 5 cases of water. My back and arms now hate me so I'm about to put the massage pad on my back.

Spent the day installing the freeze plugs (core plugs) in the boat. I had to remove the engine mounts to get to 4 out of 6 of the plugs.

Engine mount removed

I cleaned the first hole.

There’s one of the new plugs.
IMG_4528.jpeg

I found a 1” socket fit the plug pretty good and used it to hammer the plug into place.
IMG_4529.jpeg

Here’s two plugs installed on the right side. I installed an expandable rubber plug in the rear 3rd hole. The rear plug is accessible after the mount is installed so I can remove it to winterize the engine next fall.

I got the mount back on. I did the other side and started it up…no leakage! That means the block isn’t cracked.

Thanks for the update, Havasu!

I went to hang out with my friend. He rescued another kitten. It was less than 6 weeks old and was in the middle of the road. He jumped out and grabbed it. It's a little black kitten and I want to take it home. It is needing to drink formula. I would bottlefeed it and spoil the hell out of it.

Went to the store to grab some groceries and then back home where I chatted with HD people to work out a deal to get a discount on my order where the saw is missing so I can have more $ toward getting a different saw that is in stock. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow morning if it is ready in time. If the other saw ever arrives I will sell it on Marketplace or something.

Anyway, I used ice cold water for the mortar mix this time and it did not set up too fast. I mixed it in a bag which made it a little harder to stir and get stuff out, but it still worked pretty well and I got the rest done. Might need some touch-us but I will see how well it holds up.

Finished one kid's closet last week, this week I need to build a dresser. I somehow left the auction house with only part of one, so I need to fabricate a top, 6 drawer faces, a few support braces, a back, and possibly pick up some missing hardware like drawer slides. This will be a lot sturdier than normal flat-pack when I'm done at least!

Ooh, pictures? I'd love to see how you organized the closets.

I got up early and went to HomeDepot to pick up my miter saw. Also grabbed new pex cutters because mine are forever disappearing on me. The new ones have a case to store them in to make it harder to lose them.

Attempted to do the tub repair thing on the big gouge in the tub and it didn't go as planned. I'm a total monkey so it is lumpy and ugly. Color didn't quite match. But, it is better than the ugly black scrape that was there before. Gonna see if my friend can help me smooth it out.

Yeast dough is so forgiving. I started to make naan substituting sour cream for yogurt but changed my mind and made pancakes. I altered the flour to water ratio so as to have a pourable batter. When the batter doubled I carefully poured the bubbly batter into a hot skillet making light and fluffy pancakes. I shortened the recipe but it dawned on me that I could have made a full recipe then after eating the desired number of pancakes add flour to make a kneadable dough and make naan, rolls or buns with the remainder (or even refrigerate and followup in the next day or so).

My friend had to cancel. He's having an off day and felt like he would break something. His ex took the car seat he bought so he can't drive the toddler anywhere without it and he had to wait for her lazy behind to wake up to come get the toddler and she took her sweet time.

I went over and got him some food, put gas in his car and we hung out for awhile. He's stressed because he keeps getting sent over to another casino that he shouldn't have to work at, but the guy they hired hasn't been officially set up to do the work and my friend is supposed to train him. They also haven't hired my brother on at the new company that took over the contract yet so they expect my friend to do the job of 4 people tomorrow and he's stressed out. He doesn't think he can move some of the new arcade machines by himself. At least he was in a better mood when I left.

I'm hoping he can come over before the weekend though.
